AstraGin®
absorption
AstraGin® is a US-patented, GRAS Affirmed blend of highly purified extracts from Panax notoginseng and Astragalus membranaceus. Unlike most ingredients in our formula, it isn't here for direct health benefits — it's here to make everything else work better. Research on the branded compound shows it can upregulate specific intestinal transport proteins, including SGLT1 and CAT1, increasing the amount of nutrients that cross the gut lining into your bloodstream.
We include AstraGin® because absorption is a real bottleneck in supplement delivery. If your body only absorbs a fraction of what you take, you're not getting the intended value. AstraGin® addresses that at the gut level, working alongside BioPerine® through a complementary pathway.

AstraGin® Benefits — What Studies Found
Clinical doses mean nothing if your gut can’t absorb them. AstraGin® amplifies nutrient absorption so the formula actually reaches your bloodstream.
We invested in twelve research-backed ingredients. We chose clinical doses. We sourced quality extracts. But none of that matters if those compounds pass through your system without being absorbed.
AstraGin® works by upregulating specific transport proteins — including SGLT1 and CAT1 — on the intestinal lining. These are the cellular gateways that move nutrients from your gut into your bloodstream. By increasing their mRNA expression, AstraGin® helps ensure you get more value from every other ingredient in the formula.
Beyond absorption, preliminary research suggests AstraGin® may support gut barrier integrity and reduce intestinal inflammation, creating a healthier environment for nutrient uptake and beneficial gut bacteria.
This is why you’ll find absorption enhancers in most high-quality supplement formulas. We use both AstraGin® and BioPerine®, which work through complementary mechanisms.
How AstraGin® Enhances Absorption
AstraGin® supports the cellular machinery that moves nutrients from your gut into your bloodstream
Active compounds from the formula arrive at the intestinal wall, where absorption happens.
AstraGin®'s ginsenosides and astragalosides upregulate specific intestinal transporters — including SGLT1 and CAT1 — increasing their mRNA expression on the gut lining.
More nutrient molecules are actively moved across the intestinal barrier into the bloodstream.
Higher absorption means more of each ingredient reaches target tissues at effective concentrations.

Why a 50mg dose of AstraGin®
We include 50mg of AstraGin® — the branded product’s researched dose for absorption enhancement.
- Researched Dose 50mg is the specific amount studied for AstraGin®’s effects on nutrient absorption.
- Dual-Herb Extraction Combines purified Panax notoginseng and Astragalus membranaceus extracts, both with long histories in traditional use.
- Complements BioPerine® Supports intestinal transporter function (gut uptake) while BioPerine® addresses liver metabolism — two different absorption bottlenecks.
- Absorption Enhancer, Not Health Claim Included to help every other ingredient in the formula reach your bloodstream, not for direct therapeutic effects.
- GRAS Affirmed & Informed Ingredient Certified Third-party verified for safety and banned-substance free — meeting the standards required for professional and tested sport products.
The Researched Dose
50mg is the specific dose studied for AstraGin®'s absorption-enhancing effects. This is a branded, patented extract — the manufacturer's researched dose, not a range we chose from.
Clinical doses mean nothing if your gut can't move them into your bloodstream. AstraGin® supports the intestinal transporters that close the gap.

A randomized, double-blind, crossover trial in 24 healthy adults found that 50mg AstraGin® increased arginine absorption by 17.3% (AUC) and peak concentration by 11.1% compared to placebo. The arginine-to-ADMA ratio improved by 167%. Note: arginine was used as a test compound to demonstrate the absorption mechanism; it is not an ingredient in our formula. This study was conducted by the AstraGin® manufacturer.

A pilot study in ulcerative colitis patients found that AstraGin® supplementation (100mg/day for 3 months) significantly reduced fecal calprotectin by 60.9%, improved intestinal permeability (lactulose/mannitol ratio decreased 40%), and increased beneficial gut bacteria including a 420% increase in Faecalibacterium prausnitzii.

Our Assessment: AstraGin®
Included as an absorption enhancer, not for direct health benefits. The branded compound has specific research on nutrient uptake, though much of the evidence comes from the manufacturer.
- AstraGin® is a branded compound with specific research on absorption enhancement, protected by multiple US patents
- The mechanism is well-characterized: upregulation of SGLT1 and CAT1 transport proteins via increased mRNA expression
- GRAS Affirmed (Generally Recognized As Safe) and Informed Ingredient Certified — third-party verified for safety and banned-substance testing
- Constituent herbs have established traditional use and some modern research
- Much of the evidence comes from the manufacturer’s research
- Individual herb research is limited by quality issues common in TCM studies
- We include it primarily for absorption support, not direct health benefits
- The traditional herb research often involves combination products, making attribution difficult
How AstraGin® Fits the Formula
No ingredient works alone. AstraGin® was chosen because it amplifies — and is amplified by — specific formula partners.
BioPerine®
AstraGin® and BioPerine® work through complementary mechanisms. AstraGin® supports intestinal uptake. BioPerine® inhibits glucuronidation (a liver process that marks compounds for elimination). Together, they provide comprehensive bioavailability support.
the Entire Formula
Every ingredient benefits from better absorption. By supporting the foundational process of getting nutrients from gut to blood, AstraGin® enhances the value of the entire formula.
